:: Brian Bertrand - Statement on Lawsuits::
After a number of requests, Brian Bertrand has written and released this statement regarding his lawsuits against his father, mother, and stepmother.
"After attempting in earnest to resolve a very sensitive and painful matter in private, I am resolved to take a stand in the public realm in my quest for justice. Surviving sex abuse is an excruciating experience in and of itself; surviving it as a child, a male, and at the hands of your own biological father is unthinkable. I have endured ongoing and severe sexual, psychological and physical abuse in silence until now.
At the root of the abuse I endured was a homophobia so pernicious, so nefarious that my bodily integrity, physical safety, and emotional equilibrium were compromised. I must stand up not only for myself but for all oppressed individuals, especially within the LGBT community, who face senseless and savage abuse based on unfounded ignorance, fear, and hate. My hope is to bring triumph and victory to disenfranchised persons who have been wronged and to demonstrate that a stand can be taken and justice obtained.
I am not ashamed of who I am, and I am not ashamed of what I have been through. I am standing up and saying no to the abuse, oppression, humiliation, lies, manipulation, theft, and fraud. I have rights, and I am asserting them. It is unfortunate that the perpetrators of the unspeakable crimes are my biological father, biological mother, and stepmother.
I survived the sexual abuse of my biological father and have overcome his, my biological mother’s, and my stepmother’s endless attempts to conceal his repeated rapes. Aside from burying me alive, they did anything and everything to ensure I was never given the opportunity to seek justice.
I am committed to dedicating my life to lending a voice to the young child in me who could not speak for himself many years ago. I will not be silenced. "
